Upcoming Programs

Registrations are now being accepted for a Women’s Volleyball League, with play scheduled to begin on Sunday, March 5, at the Hampshire High School gymnasium. The final times and schedule will be set after registrations are completed. Registration fee is $25 for each player, and rosters are unlimited. All players must be registered through HCP&R and paid in full before participating. Matches will consist of two games to 25 points with rally scoring and a third game to 15 if necessary. No official uniforms are required. Games will be self-officiated, and if a disagreement occurs over a call, there will be a re-serve with no points awarded. League play will conclude with a championship tournament. To register, log onto the HCP&R website, hampshirecountyparks.com, scroll to the bottom of the home page, and fill out and send the Program Registration Form. Payment may then be mailed to HCP&R, P.O. Box 213, Romney, WV 26757. Registrations will also be accepted in person at the HCP&R Office at 90 North High Street in Romney any weekday between 9:00 and 1:00. For more information, call HCP&R at (304) 822-7300 or email us at hampshirecoparks@hotmail.com. The league will hold an organizational meeting and practice this Sunday, March 5, at the HHS gymnasium from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. Registrations for the league will be accepted at this meeting, and those pre-registered may pay their registration fee at that time, if they have not paid already. Anyone interested in participating in the league should attend this meeting so rosters and schedules can be completed.

With the promise of warmer weather on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about our Walk To Be Fit Program, which is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2017. Just stop by any FNB Bank Branch (Fort Ashby, Romney, Hampshire Square, or Capon Bridge) or the Hampshire Wellness and Fitness Center at Hampshire Square to register for the program. When you register, don’t forget to pick up your free pedometer and your tally sheet to log the miles that you walk. We will recognize four milestones this year: 100, 250, 500, and 1,000 miles. When you reach one of those milestones, or when your tally sheet is filled, just return it to the location where you picked it up, and we will contact you when you are eligible for a prize. Prizes for 2017 will include cups with lids and straws, tee shirts, hot/cold mugs, and bag chairs. Walking is great exercise on the path to a healthier lifestyle, and what could be better than receiving some nice prizes for your efforts? That’s what Walk To Be Fit is all about.

Hampshire County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Flag Football League this summer. Games are tentatively set to begin on June 10 and will follow on succeeding Saturdays through the end of July. The league is open to all boys and girls ages 4 through 13, and teams will be chosen geographically within the county. Players and teams will be grouped according to the following age categories: 4 through 7; 8 through 10; and 11 through 13. All games will be played at Central Hampshire Park in Augusta, and USA Football Today rules will govern the league. Registration fee for the league will be $40 per player. That fee will cover the cost of a tee shirt, which participants will keep at the end of the season, and other equipment such as flags and footballs. There are three ways to register for the league. First, you may register online at the HCP&R website, hampshirecountyparks.com. Just scroll to the bottom of the home page and fill out and then send the Program Registration Form. Second, registrations will be accepted at the HCP&R Office at 90 North High Street in Romney any weekday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Also, there will be an in-person registration on Saturday, March 18, at Covenant Baptist Church at the Mountain Top from noon until 3:00 p.m. Participants will need to bring a copy of their most recent report card to verify age and school attended, and home-schoolers will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate. Anyone interested in coaching a team may contact league coordinator Bo Blomquist at bo.blomquist86@gmail.com or HCP&R at hampshirecoparks@hotmail.com and by phone at (304) 822-7300.
